Class 14

The Vocational Unit  Class 14

The Vocational Unit is situated within the main building of the school. The Vocational Unit consists of 8 pupils, all aged between 16 years and 19 years old. (5 boys and 3 girls.) The teacher is Mrs Laura McConville and her classroom assistant is Mrs Joanne Owen.

The room is bright and very well resourced. The classroom has nine computers, two of which are C2K computers and are linked to the internet.

The curriculum in this Unit aims to provide a learning experience which encourages each student to develop skills for independent living, through a varied time-table and careful planning which also reflects their individual needs.  Each student is given the opportunity to develop a perception and understanding of him/herself in a positive way and so improve self-esteem.

In the Vocational Unit, the pupils are given the opportunity to carry out work experience within school before extending this to work experience in the community. At present two students are on work placements, one pupil working at McDonalds, and a final year pupil has two work placements one in 191 Hairdressers and the other in NV at the Rushmere Shopping Centre.
