Governors

Ceara school has nine governors.  Governors are appointed/elected for a period of four years.  Our current board of governors will be reconstituted in October 2009 (subject to Department of Education approval).  Governors are unpaid and act in a voluntary capacity.

The Department for Education (DE) appoints three governors, while the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) appoints two governors.

Two governors are elected from the parents of children attending the school and one teacher governor is elected from within the teaching staff.

The school principal is the secretary to the Board of Governors.  The principal is a member of the Board of Governors due to his position, and as he was neither elected or appointed by DE or the SELB, he has no vote in any discussions/matters.

Our current governors are:

Rev. Fr. John Byrne (Chair of Governors)  SELB Representative

Mr Paul Haughey (Vice Chair)  DE Representative

Mrs Fiona Rowan DE Representative

Mr Joe Nelson SELB Representative

 Ms Carla Lockhart SELB Representative

 Parents' Representative

Dr. Eimear Thompson  Parents' Representative

Miss Heidi Jeffers  Teacher Representative

Dr Peter Cunningham  Secretary to the Board of Governors

Governors may be contacted at any time through the secretary.
